Going off to college gives seniors in high school some of the most important decisions that they will ever have to make in their life. What school do I go to? What do I major in? Which school is the best for my major? How much will it cost? How will I pay for it? These are questions that those that are planning to go off to college have to ask themselves.
So where do we start? How about a college major. There are hundreds of different majors, so it is understandable that someone who doesn't know what they want to do will have a hard time choosing. Focusing on what you excel at or simply what you enjoy can be a great tool in your decision. For me the decision was relatively easy. I love art and have a strong talent in mathematics so I chose Architecture as my major. Finding something that you are good at and love to do is important in your final decision.
Now to pick a college. Yet another important decision resulting in the next 2-4 years of your life (or more, depending on your major). Picking a school that is well known for your major may be a simple choice but if you don't know what you want to do then it may be more difficult. I narrowed my college search to those with great architecture programs but I am still having difficulty deciding on the right one for me. It is necessary to consider location, size, and price when looking at a college and every person will have a different preference for each.
After all of the college planning, you have to find a way to pay for it all. Your parents may be able to pay for some if not all of it but a lot of kids may not be in the best of financial situations. That leaves only one thing to turn to. Scholarships. The dreaded essays. We have to work our butts off just to have a chance at some money, but that is just the way it is. My suggestion is to look at any options you can to find scholarships because you may not get the money for each one you submit. You could always turn to loans, but who wants to spend years paying off all of the debt? There is a large amount of hard work in college and we will be working hard from here on out.
So good luck to everyone out there that is in the same situation as me. It may be better or worse for you but I hope everything works out. I have left some links that may give you some help or ideas in your efforts. If you have any awesome suggestions that can help others please comment.
